What is this online Arabic keyboard?
It is a virtual Arabic keyboard that runs in your browser. It shows the standard Arabic 101 layout used in Saudi Arabia, so you can type Arabic by clicking the on-screen keys or by using your physical keyboard, without installing anything or changing your system language settings.
Which keyboard layout does it use?
The standard Arabic 101 (Saudi Arabia) layout: the top letter row is ض ص ث ق ف غ ع ه خ ح ج د, the home row is ش س ي ب ل ا ت ن م ك ط, the bottom row is ئ ء ؤ ر لا ى ة و ز ظ, and the number row carries Eastern Arabic numerals ١ ٢ ٣.
How do I type harakat and other diacritics?
Hold Shift (or click Shift once to latch it): Q gives sukun ْ, W fathatan ً, E damma ُ, R dammatan ٌ, A fatha َ, S kasra ِ, D kasratan ٍ, the key above Tab gives shadda ّ, and the Y, H and N keys give إ, أ and آ. On touch screens, press and hold a key to type its shifted character.
My physical keyboard is not QWERTY - will it still work?
Yes. The mapping is based on physical key positions with the US QWERTY layout as reference, exactly like a real Arabic 101 keyboard: the key where Q sits always types ض, the A key types ش and the Z key types ئ.
Do I need to install Arabic language support?
No. The keyboard is fully self-contained: nothing to install, no operating system settings to change and no add-ons. It works on any device with a browser, which also makes it handy for shared or borrowed computers.
Is my text private?
Yes. All typing and processing happens locally in your browser and nothing is uploaded to any server. Your draft is only saved in this browser (localStorage) so you do not lose it on reload, and you can clear it any time with the Clear button.
How do I get the text out of the tool?
Use Select all plus Copy to paste the Arabic text into any app, or Download .txt to save it as a UTF-8 text file. The output field is right-to-left, so the text displays exactly as it will appear elsewhere.
Is this keyboard useful for learning Arabic typing?
Definitely. Because it mirrors the real Arabic 101 keyboard, it is a good way to learn touch typing positions for Arabic letters, practise where the harakat live, and build muscle memory before switching your daily machine to an Arabic layout.
How to Use Arabic Keyboard
This online Arabic keyboard lets you type Arabic without installing anything or changing your system language settings. It shows the standard Arabic 101 layout used in Saudi Arabia: click the on-screen keys with the mouse, or type on your physical keyboard and every key is translated to its Arabic counterpart by position.
- Click the keys on the virtual keyboard, or simply type with your own keyboard - each physical key maps to the Arabic character printed on the same position of an Arabic 101 keyboard.
- Hold the Shift key (or click it once to latch it) to type harakat and accents: sukun, fatha, damma, kasra, tanwin, shadda, hamza forms and the tatweel.
- On touch screens, press and hold any key for about half a second to type its shifted character, shown in a small popup above the key.
- Use Space, Backspace, Enter and the cursor buttons to edit; the caret behaves like a normal text field, so you can select and correct freely.
- When you are done, use Select all and Copy to paste the text anywhere, or Download .txt to save it as a UTF-8 text file.
