Graphing Calculator
Free online graphing calculator: plot multiple functions, pan and zoom, trace coordinates and find intersections and extrema. Runs entirely in your browser.
Which expression syntax does the graph support?
It uses mathjs syntax with x as the variable: arithmetic (+, -, *, /, ^), parentheses, functions like sin, cos, tan, asin, acos, atan, sinh, cosh, abs, sqrt, cbrt, exp, log, floor, ceil, round, min and max, constants pi and e, and implicit multiplication such as 2x or 3sin(x).
What is the derivative feature for?
Extrema detection builds the symbolic first derivative of your expression with mathjs, scans it for sign changes, refines each candidate by bisection and classifies it as a minimum or maximum using the second derivative. Toggle it in the Analysis section.
How are intersections between curves found?
For every pair of visible functions the tool scans the difference f(x) - g(x) across the viewport, spots sign changes and refines each crossing with bisection. Every hit is marked with its coordinates on the graph.
Why does tan(x) or 1/x show gaps?
Near vertical asymptotes the values jump toward plus or minus infinity. When consecutive sampled points differ by more than several screen heights, the line is broken on purpose so that no false vertical wall is drawn.
How do I pan, zoom, trace and reset the view?
Drag with the mouse or one finger to pan, scroll with the wheel or pinch with two fingers to zoom around the cursor, and hover or tap to snap to the nearest curve and read its coordinates. Type exact limits into the x/y range fields or press Fit view to reset.
Can I plot several functions at once?
Yes, up to 12. Each new function takes the next color from a fixed 8-color palette with separate light and dark variants. The eye icon hides or shows a curve without deleting it, the trash icon removes it, and Export PNG saves the current viewport.
How is this different from a scientific calculator?
A scientific calculator evaluates one expression into a single number. This tool draws y = f(x) over a whole interval so you can see the shape of the curve, where it crosses axes or other curves, and where its peaks and valleys are.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Expression parsing, sampling, symbolic differentiation and PNG export all run locally in your browser with a bundled math library. Nothing is sent to any server and no account is required.
How to Use Graphing Calculator
This graphing calculator plots several y = f(x) functions on one canvas: drag to pan, scroll or pinch to zoom, hover or tap to trace points, and switch on intersection and extrema detection to have them marked with coordinates. Everything is computed locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
- Type expressions in the function list using mathjs syntax with x as the variable — sin(x), x^2-3, 1/x, tan(x), sqrt(x), 2x and constants pi/e all work. Invalid expressions are flagged inline in red instead of breaking the graph.
- Add more functions with the "Add function" button (up to 12); each gets a color from a fixed 8-color palette (light and dark variants). The eye icon hides a curve without deleting it; the trash icon removes it.
- Navigate the view: drag to pan, mouse wheel or two-finger pinch to zoom around the pointer, type exact x/y limits into the range fields, or press "Fit view" to return to the default window. Center and zoom readouts update live.
- Turn on "Show intersections" to mark where pairs of curves cross (numeric sign-change scan plus bisection refinement) and "Show extrema" to mark peaks and valleys (symbolic first derivative via mathjs, classified by the second derivative).
- Hover the mouse or tap the graph to snap to the nearest curve at that pixel and read its exact coordinates in a tooltip.
- Press "Export PNG" to download the current viewport as an image at your device pixel resolution, or "Load examples" to fill the list with sin(x), x^2, 1/x, tan(x) and x^3-3x.
Gaps in curves like tan(x) or 1/x are intentional: near vertical asymptotes consecutive sample points jump by more than several screen heights, so the line is broken instead of drawing a false vertical wall. Zoom in near the asymptote to see each branch in detail.
