How does this meme generator work?
Upload any image or start from the built-in gradient template, then add captions in the classic meme style: white Impact-style text with a thick black outline at the top and bottom. You can drag each text anywhere on the image and download the finished meme as PNG or JPEG.
Can I use my own photos to make a meme?
Yes. Click the upload area or drag and drop any image from your device. Everything is processed locally in your browser, so your photos never leave your computer.
Why does classic meme text use white letters with a black outline?
The bold white "Impact" font with a heavy black stroke is the traditional meme caption style. It stays readable on almost any background, which is why nearly every classic internet meme uses it.
How many captions can I add?
You can add up to 8 separate text blocks. The first two are created automatically in the classic top and bottom positions, and you can move any of them to a custom position by dragging.
Can I move the text anywhere on the image?
Yes. Simply drag a caption directly on the preview canvas and its position switches to "Custom", stored in relative coordinates so the layout stays correct at any export size.
Should I download my meme as PNG or JPEG?
PNG is lossless and gives the sharpest result for text, while JPEG produces smaller files with slight compression. For sharing in messengers either works; for the crispest text choose PNG.
Is the meme generator free? Are there watermarks?
The tool is completely free and adds no watermarks to your images. The downloaded meme is exactly what you see in the preview.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. All rendering happens locally in your browser using the HTML canvas. Your images and captions are never sent anywhere.
What makes a good meme caption?
Keep it short and punchy — a few words at the top for the setup and a punchline at the bottom works best. Large readable text and high contrast with the image are what make classic memes so shareable.
How to Use Meme Generator
Put classic white Impact captions with a black outline on any photo and export a finished meme in seconds. The image is drawn on a canvas right on your device — nothing is uploaded anywhere.

- Two caption cards are created for you: type the setup in the top card and the punchline in the bottom one — the text renders instantly in the classic outlined style.
- Set each caption's placement with the Top / Bottom / Custom selector and its size with the Size slider, or simply drag the text around directly on the canvas.
- Keep UPPERCASE checked for the authentic look, and use the Text color and Outline color pickers on each card to restyle that caption. Add text inserts further captions (up to eight) and the trash button deletes one.
- Press Download PNG when the text must stay razor sharp, or Download JPEG for a smaller file that chats and social apps handle well.
