Image Upscaler
Upscale images 2x or 4x online free with AI super-resolution. Sharper than simple resizing, with a before/after comparison slider. ESRGAN runs fully in your browser - private, no uploads.
How does AI image upscaling work?
A neural network (ESRGAN) trained on photo pairs learns to reconstruct fine details — edges, textures, text — when enlarging. It predicts new pixels intelligently instead of just stretching the originals.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The model runs on TensorFlow.js inside your browser with WebGL acceleration. Your image never leaves your device.
What is the difference between 2x and 4x?
2x doubles width and height and is faster. 4x quadruples them for much larger outputs and takes considerably more time and memory.
Why do I have to wait for a model to load?
The ESRGAN model is downloaded from a CDN once and cached by the browser. Subsequent upscales with the same factor start immediately.
What image sizes work best?
Small and medium images work best — up to about 2000 px on the long side. The image is processed tile by tile, so bigger images simply take longer.
Why does the result look smoother than the original?
The network reconstructs plausible detail; on very noisy sources it can smooth micro-texture. For photos, faces and illustrations the sharpness gain is usually significant.
What format is the output?
Lossless PNG at the enlarged size — 4x on an original width and height makes 16 times as many pixels.
How do I compare before and after?
After processing, drag the comparison slider across the image to wipe between the original and the upscaled version at the same display size.
Can it upscale screenshots or text images?
Yes, the model handles text edges well. For very small text, 2x often yields cleaner glyph reconstruction than 4x.
Why is it slower than other upscaling sites?
Because it is free and private: everything computes on your own GPU/CPU instead of a server. Speed depends on your hardware and image size.
How to Use Image Upscaler
Enlarge photos up to 4x without losing sharpness and without uploading anything. An ESRGAN neural network — served from CDN and running on TensorFlow.js inside your browser — reconstructs fine detail that simple stretching destroys, with a live before/after comparison slider.
- Click or drag an image into the upload area. Images up to about 2000 px on the long side process the fastest.
- Choose the upscale factor: 2x is quicker, 4x produces much larger, more detailed output.
- Press Upscale image. The first run downloads the AI model; afterwards the progress bar tracks tile-by-tile processing.
- Drag the comparison slider across the result to wipe between the original and the upscaled version.
- Press Download PNG to save the enlarged image — it is exported lossless at the new size.
Very small text often upscales more cleanly at 2x than 4x. If a 4x result looks too smooth, try 2x and then upscale again from the 2x output.
