Typing Speed Test
Free online typing speed test. Measure your WPM and accuracy in 15, 30 or 60 seconds. No sign-up, no tracking - runs entirely in your browser.
What is a typing speed test?
A typing speed test measures how many words you can type per minute (WPM) and how accurately you type. This tool shows your live speed and accuracy while you type and a full summary when the test ends.
How is WPM calculated?
One standard word counts as five characters, including spaces. Net WPM divides your correctly typed characters by five and by the elapsed minutes, so mistakes lower your final score.
What is a good typing speed?
The average typist reaches about 40 WPM. Typing 60-70 WPM is considered fast, and professional typists and programmers often exceed 80-100 WPM while keeping accuracy above 95%.
What is the difference between net and gross WPM?
Gross WPM counts every character you type, correct or not. Net WPM counts only the correct characters, so it reflects the speed you can actually rely on for real work.
How is accuracy calculated?
Accuracy is the percentage of keystrokes that produced the correct character. Wrong characters, corrections and extra characters all reduce your accuracy score.
What does consistency mean?
Consistency shows how steady your speed was during the test. A high percentage means you typed at an even rhythm instead of switching between fast bursts and long pauses.
Is my typing data uploaded anywhere?
No. The whole test runs locally in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you type is recorded, stored or sent to any server, so you can practice privately.
Can I practice with my own text?
Yes. Select the custom text mode, paste or type any text, and practice with material from your own language, study notes or code snippets instead of the built-in English words.
How to Use Typing Speed Test
This typing test measures your real typing speed and accuracy entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored - the whole test runs locally on your device.
- Pick a mode from the dropdown: a 15, 30 or 60 second sprint, a 10, 25 or 50 word challenge, or custom text.
- For custom text, paste or type your own passage in the box that appears - great for practising in your native language.
- Click the text area and start typing. The timer starts with your first keystroke, and correct characters turn dark while mistakes turn red.
- Use Backspace to fix mistakes - corrections are possible but they cost time and accuracy.
- When the test ends, read your net WPM, gross WPM, accuracy, consistency and the speed curve, then press Restart (or Tab) to try again.
Aim for accuracy first: at 95%+ accuracy your net WPM rises faster than when you rush and correct constantly.
