Chess Clock
Free online chess clock with Fischer increment. Presets from 1+0 bullet to 15+10 rapid, custom time, tap to switch sides, pause, swap and spacebar support — runs entirely in your browser.
What is a chess clock and how does this one work?
A chess clock gives each player their own countdown. After you pick a time control and press Start, the moving player's clock runs. When a player completes a move, they tap their own panel (or press the spacebar): their clock stops, the increment is added if enabled, and the opponent's clock starts.
What is the Fischer increment?
Named after world champion Bobby Fischer, the Fischer increment adds a fixed number of seconds to your remaining time every time you complete a move. A 5+3 control means five base minutes plus three extra seconds per move, which makes it very hard to lose purely on time if you keep moving.
Which time controls are available?
The presets cover the common official ranges: 1+0 and 2+1 for bullet, 3+0, 3+2 and 5+0 for blitz, 5+3 for fast blitz, and 10+0 with 15+10 for rapid. You can also pick Custom and enter any minutes, seconds and increment you like.
How is the time displayed?
The active clock counts down with 0.1-second precision using tabular numerals, so digits do not jitter while the clock runs. Each panel also shows how many moves that player has completed.
What happens when a player's time runs out?
The clock locks immediately, both panels stop reacting and the winner is announced in a banner and a toast: the player who still has time on their clock wins on time. Press Reset to replay the same time control or Settings to choose a new one.
Can I pause the game?
Yes. The Pause button freezes the running clock at any moment, which is handy for adjudicating a position or taking a break. Resume continues exactly where the countdown stopped. Reset returns both clocks to the starting time.
What does Swap sides do?
It mirrors the two panels left to right, so the person sitting on the other side of the board or table has their clock nearest to them. The game state is not affected in any way.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The two large panels are sized for touch, so you can lay the phone flat between the players and tap instead of pressing a physical clock button. The layout also adapts to narrow screens without horizontal scrolling.
Is any game data stored or sent anywhere?
No. The chess clock runs entirely in your browser: no account, no network requests during play and nothing about your games is stored or transmitted. When you close the page, everything is gone.
How to Use Chess Clock
This chess clock replaces the mechanical double-clock on the table: each player gets their own countdown, and tapping your panel (or pressing the spacebar) ends your move and starts your opponent's time. Fischer increment is supported, so seconds are added back after every completed move. Everything runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored.
- Pick a time control: presets run from 1+0 bullet to 15+10 rapid, or choose Custom to enter your own minutes, seconds and increment.
- Press Start — White's panel immediately begins counting down with 0.1-second precision and stays highlighted while it is running.
- After each move, tap the moving player's panel or press the spacebar: their time grows by the increment, their move counter goes up, and the other side's clock starts.
- Use Pause to freeze the running clock and Resume to continue, Swap sides to mirror the panels across the table, and Reset to replay the same time control.
- When a clock reaches zero the game locks and the winner is announced — the player with time left wins on time. Settings takes you back to choose another time control.
Lay the phone flat between the players and tap the panels like a real clock. If a preset does not fit your club's rules, Custom accepts any combination of minutes, seconds and increment.
