Reaction Time Test
Free online reaction time test. Click when the box turns green, five attempts per round with average, best and worst, plus an all-time record saved in your browser.
What is a reaction time test?
It measures how quickly you respond to a visual signal. A box changes color and the timer records the milliseconds between the change and your click, giving you an objective score for your reflexes.
What is a good reaction time?
For visual stimuli the average adult scores around 250–300 ms. Anything under 250 ms is considered fast, competitive gamers often land between 150 and 230 ms, and results below about 120 ms are close to the physical limit of human perception.
How is my reaction time measured here?
The tool waits a random 1–5 seconds, then turns the box green. A high-resolution performance clock measures the exact milliseconds between the green flash and your click, so the result is precise to the millisecond.
What happens if I click too early?
If you click while the box is still red, the attempt does not count. You simply get a too-soon message and can click again to retry — the random wait is there precisely to punish guessing the rhythm.
Why five attempts per round?
A single measurement is noisy. Five attempts give you a last, average, best and worst value, which is a far more reliable picture of your true reaction speed than any single trial.
Is my data stored or shared?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser and no data is sent to any server. Your all-time best and best round average are saved only in your own browser storage, and you can erase them by clearing site data.
Can I take the test on a phone?
Yes. The big click area is fully touch-friendly, so you can tap it just like clicking with a mouse. Keep in mind that touch screens usually add a few milliseconds compared to a mouse.
Can I use the spacebar instead of clicking?
Yes. Press the spacebar to start, to react and to continue between attempts. Many people score slightly faster with the spacebar because it uses a larger muscle group than a finger click.
How can I improve my reaction time?
Sleep well, stay hydrated and take the test in a quiet place with a low-latency mouse and screen. Regular practice mainly improves your consistency; the base speed is largely set by physiology and age.
How to Use Reaction Time Test
This reaction time test measures how fast your reflexes respond to a visual signal, with millisecond precision. A box turns from red to green after a random 1–5 second wait, and the timer records exactly how long you took to react. Five attempts per round give you an average, and your all-time best is kept locally in your browser — nothing ever leaves your device.
- Click the large box once to arm the test — it turns red and the message says to wait for green.
- The moment the box turns green, click it (or press the spacebar). Your reaction time in milliseconds appears in the box.
- Repeat until all five dots under the box are filled; each dot shows that attempt's result.
- Read the stat cards below: Last, Average, Best and Worst for the finished round, plus your all-time best single and best round average.
- Hit Reset to clear the current round, or click the box again to start a fresh five-attempt round.
Anything under 250 ms is excellent for a visual reaction. Avoid rhythm guessing — clicking while the box is still red cancels the attempt and you will be asked to try again.
