Dice Roller
Roll dice online with real RPG notation: 2d6+3, d20, 4d6kh3 and more. Quick buttons for d4 to d100, a quantity stepper, a big result display with CSS pips for d6, and a history list with a grand total — all running locally in your browser.
What dice notation does the roller support?
It uses standard tabletop notation: NdM rolls N dice with M sides, and you can add or subtract modifiers, so 2d6+3 means two six-sided dice plus three. It also understands math like parentheses and multiplication, common dice such as d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100 (percentile), and reroll, explode, keep-highest and keep-lowest modifiers.
What does 4d6kh3 mean?
It rolls four six-sided dice and keeps the highest three — the classic D&D method for generating ability scores with advantage. Similarly kl keeps the lowest dice, so 2d20kl1 rolls two twenty-sided dice and keeps the lower one, which is how you roll with disadvantage.
How random are the rolls?
The rolls are generated in your browser by the dice engine using a pseudo-random number generator seeded from the browser. It is more than fair enough for games, drama and deciding who goes first, but it is not a cryptographic randomness source and should not be used for security purposes.
Why do I see an error after entering a notation?
The notation has to be something the parser understands, like 2d6+3 or 4d6kh3. Typos such as 2x6, missing dice counts or unmatched brackets produce a friendly error message instead of a roll. Check the pattern — number, d, sides, then optional modifiers — and try again.
How does the history and grand total work?
Every successful roll is appended to the history list with its notation and total, newest first. The grand total sums every roll in the current history, which is handy for damage over multiple hits or tracking a session. Clearing the history resets the grand total to zero.
What do the small dice icons under the total show?
They display each individual die result from the roll. For six-sided dice they are drawn as real dice faces with pips, and dice that were dropped by keep/drop modifiers are shown dimmed so you can see what was discarded. Plain numbers from the notation, like the +3, appear as modifier chips.
Are my rolls stored or shared anywhere?
All rolling happens locally in your browser with no network requests, so your dice results never leave your device. The roll history is kept only for the current page visit, and clearing it or closing the tab erases everything.
What can I use this dice roller for?
D&D and other tabletop RPG sessions, board games with missing dice, wargaming, classroom probability demonstrations, or any time you need a random number between fixed bounds. The quick buttons cover the common dice, and free notation handles exotic combinations.
How to Use Dice Roller
This dice roller speaks real tabletop notation through the rpg-dice-roller engine: 2d6+3, d20, 4d6kh3, parentheses and arithmetic all work. Quick buttons cover the classic dice from d4 to d100 with an adjustable quantity, every roll shows a big total with the individual dice (six-siders drawn as real pipped faces, dropped dice dimmed), and the history list keeps a grand total of the session.
- Type a notation in the input — for example 2d6+3 for two six-sided dice plus three, or 4d6kh3 to roll four and keep the highest three.
- Or set the dice quantity with the stepper (1 to 20) and press a quick button: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 or d100.
- Press Roll (or hit Enter): the total appears in large digits, with one chip per die under it — six-sided dice show their pips, dice excluded by keep/drop modifiers are dimmed, and flat modifiers like +3 appear as chips.
- Read the full breakdown in the small output line, e.g. 2d6+3: [3, 2]+3 = 8.
- Check the History section: every roll is listed with notation and total, the Grand total card sums the session, and Clear history resets both.
If the parser rejects your notation, look for typos first — number, d, sides, then modifiers (kh3, kl1, r6 and so on). Use 2d20kl1 for rolls with disadvantage and 2d20kh1 for advantage.
