Why might the converted date differ from local moon sighting?
Umm al-Qura uses calculated month boundaries, while many communities start the month on local crescent observation, shifting dates by one day. The ±2-day adjustment box covers such differences.
How does the adjustment work?
It adds or subtracts up to 2 days from the result on both conversion directions, so you can match a local announcement such as the start of Ramadan or Eid.
What is shown for each conversion?
The converted date with localized month names, plus the day of the week of the result. For Gregorian to Hijri you also get the weekday of the original date.
What are the month lengths table for?
It lists the length of all 12 months of the current Hijri year (29 or 30 days each), useful for planning Ramadan, Hajj and other Islamic dates.
Why does a Hijri date sometimes not exist?
Some months have only 29 days. If you select day 30 of a 29-day month, the tool reports an invalid date instead of silently rounding to the next month.
Is any data sent anywhere?
No. All conversions run locally in your browser with the built-in Intl calendar; nothing is transmitted or stored.
Which year range is supported?
Roughly Hijri years 1300 to 1600 (about 1882 to 2174 CE), the range covered by the built-in Umm al-Qura tables.
