How does this text to speech tool work?
It uses the Web Speech API built into your browser and the speech voices already installed on your operating system. When you press Play, the text is sent to the local speech engine and spoken through your speakers - no server is involved.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens locally in your browser. The text you type never leaves your device, which makes the tool safe for private notes and confidential documents.
Why do I see different voices than on another device?
The voice list comes from your operating system, so it depends on your device and its language packs. Windows, macOS, Android and iOS each ship different voices, and you can usually add more from your system settings.
Can I use it offline?
Yes. Once the page is loaded, speech synthesis runs entirely on your device, so no internet connection is needed while listening.
Can I adjust the voice speed and pitch?
Yes. The Speed slider ranges from 0.5× (slow, good for learning) to 2× (fast skim), and the Pitch slider raises or lowers the voice tone. Volume can also be adjusted independently of your system volume.
Can I download the generated speech as an MP3?
The browser speech engine plays audio directly and does not expose a recording, so the tool focuses on instant listening. To save audio, use your system's screen or audio recorder while the text is being spoken.
Why does long text sometimes stop in the middle?
Some browsers limit single utterances. This tool automatically splits your text into sentence-sized chunks and queues them, which keeps long articles reading smoothly from start to finish.
What is text to speech useful for?

How to Use Text to Speech
A text to speech reader that speaks your text aloud using the natural voices already installed on your device, with speed, pitch and volume controls and play/pause/stop playback. Everything runs locally - your text is never uploaded.
- Type or paste your text into the box, or press Sample to load a demo sentence in your language.
- Pick a voice in the Voice dropdown - voices matching your interface language are listed first, and each entry shows the voice name with its language code.
- Adjust Speed (0.5× for slow learning playback, up to 2× for a fast skim), Pitch and Volume with the three sliders.
- Press Play to start reading; the status line shows Speaking while the voice is active.
- Use Pause to hold the reading and Resume to continue, Stop to end immediately, and press Play again anytime to start from the beginning.
If the voice list looks empty, your browser or system has no speech voices installed - Chrome and Edge ship with voices out of the box, and more languages can be added from your operating system's speech settings.
