How do I record my voice online?
Press the Record button and allow the microphone permission prompt. The recorder starts immediately - speak into your microphone, watch the live waveform to confirm the sound is being captured, then press Stop when you are done.
What format are the recordings saved in?
Recordings are saved in the WebM (Opus) format on Chrome, Edge and Firefox, or M4A (AAC) on Safari, depending on what your browser supports. Both play in most players and can be converted to MP3 if needed.
Are my recordings uploaded to a server?
No. All recording and playback happens locally in your browser. The audio never leaves your device unless you personally download and share the file.
Can I pause and resume a recording?
Yes. Press Pause during recording to hold the take without ending it, then press Resume to continue - the pauses are not counted, so the final file contains only the spoken audio.
Where do my recordings go after I stop?
Each finished recording appears in the list below the meter with instant playback, duration, file size, a download button and a delete button. Recordings exist only in the page memory - download anything you want to keep before closing the tab.
Can I choose which microphone to use?
Yes. If your device has several audio inputs, the Microphone dropdown lets you pick between them - for example a headset mic versus a laptop built-in mic. You can change it before starting a recording.
Why does the browser ask for microphone permission?
Browsers require explicit user consent before any page can access a microphone. This protects your privacy: without your approval, no website can hear you. You can revoke the permission at any time from the address bar or browser settings.
Can I use the voice recorder on my phone?
Yes. Modern mobile browsers support microphone recording, so you can record voice memos on the go and download the files just like on a computer.
How to Use Online Voice Recorder

- Press Record and allow the microphone permission prompt; the live waveform immediately shows what the microphone hears.
- Speak or play your instrument while the REC indicator blinks and the timer runs at the top of the meter.
- Use Pause to hold the take mid-recording and Resume to continue - paused time is not written into the file.
- Press Stop to finish; the recording appears in the list with a player, duration and file size.
- Listen back with the inline player, then click the download icon to save the audio file, or the trash icon to delete the take.
Speak about a hand's width from the microphone and watch the waveform peaks: if they stay tiny you are too far away, and if they constantly slam into the edges you are clipping.
