How do I test my webcam online?

Is my video being uploaded or recorded anywhere?
No. The webcam feed is displayed locally in your browser and never leaves your device. Photos you take are held only in the page memory until you download them or close the tab.
Why does the browser ask for camera permission?
Browsers require explicit user permission before any page can access a camera. This protects your privacy - without your click, no website can see your video. You can revoke the permission at any time in the browser address bar or settings.
My camera shows a black screen. What should I check?
First check that another application (Zoom, Teams, OBS) is not using the camera, then confirm the camera is selected in the dropdown and not covered by a privacy shutter. Restarting the browser after granting permission also helps on some systems.
What do the resolution and frame rate numbers mean?
Resolution (for example 1280×720) is the number of pixels in each frame, and frame rate (for example 30 FPS) is how many frames per second the camera delivers. For video calls, 720p at 30 FPS is a good baseline.
Can I test multiple cameras?
Yes. If your device has several cameras - for example a laptop has both an external USB webcam and a built-in one - pick the camera in the dropdown and the feed switches instantly.
Can I take photos with the webcam?
Yes. While the camera is live, press "Take photo" to capture a snapshot. The photo appears below the preview and can be downloaded as a JPEG with one click.
Does the webcam test work on phones?
Yes, on modern mobile browsers it uses the front or rear camera depending on your device. Grant the camera permission when prompted and the same live preview and photo capture are available.
How to Use Webcam Test

- Click Start camera and allow the browser permission prompt; your live feed appears in the preview within seconds.
- Read the report under the video: the actual resolution, the measured frames per second and the active camera name.
- If you have several cameras, pick a different one in the Camera dropdown and the preview switches immediately.
- Toggle Mirror to flip the preview like a real mirror, which is easier for checking your appearance before a call.
- Press Take photo to capture a snapshot, then use the download icon on the thumbnail to save it as a JPEG, or Stop to end the test.
A black preview usually means another app (Zoom, Teams, OBS) is holding the camera - close those apps first, then press Start camera again.
