Which file formats can I convert to CSV?
This tool converts .xlsx (modern Excel), .xlsm (macro-enabled workbooks), .xls (legacy Excel 97-2003) and plain .csv files. Pick the worksheet you want from the dropdown after loading the file.
Are my spreadsheets uploaded to a server?
No. The file is parsed by the SheetJS library inside a Web Worker in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored anywhere, so confidential workbooks are safe to convert.
What happens to formulas when converting to CSV?
CSV is a plain-text format that stores values only. Formulas are evaluated and their current calculated results are written to the CSV; cell colors, fonts and other formatting are not preserved.
Which delimiter should I choose?
Comma is the standard CSV delimiter. Choose semicolon if your regional Excel settings use it (common in parts of Europe), or tab when pasting into editors and spreadsheets that expect TSV.
Why does my CSV show strange characters when opened in Excel?
Excel sometimes misreads UTF-8 files without a BOM, showing garbled accented or non-Latin characters. Keep the default UTF-8 with BOM option so Excel detects the encoding correctly.
Is there a file size limit?
Files over 20 MB trigger a warning that conversion may be slower, but they are still processed. Since everything runs on your device, available memory is the practical limit.
How are dates and numbers exported?
Cells are exported as they are displayed in Excel: dates keep their formatted appearance and numbers keep their decimal separators. Change the cell formatting in Excel before converting if you need a different representation.
Can I export multiple worksheets at once?
Conversion works one worksheet at a time. Select a sheet, download its CSV, then switch to another sheet and download again. The sheet dropdown lists every sheet in the workbook.
Why are leading zeros lost from my codes or phone numbers?
If values like 00123 were stored as numbers, the numeric representation has no leading zeros. Format those cells as text in Excel before saving, or keep the original .xlsx for exact values.
Is the converter free?

How to Use Excel to CSV
Turn Excel workbooks into clean CSV data without installing anything. The spreadsheet is parsed by a background worker inside your browser, so your numbers stay on your machine from start to finish.
- Click the upload zone or drop an .xlsx, .xlsm, .xls or .csv file onto it — files over 20 MB still work, they just take a moment.
- If the workbook has several tabs, pick the sheet you need in the Worksheet selector; the preview table underneath shows the first 50 rows along with the row × column counts.
- Match the output to your target system: choose the Delimiter (comma, semicolon, tab or pipe), the Encoding (UTF-8 with BOM re-opens cleanly in Excel) and the Line endings (LF or CRLF).
- Press Download CSV to save the file with your chosen settings, or Copy CSV to put it straight on the clipboard. The × button next to the file name resets everything for the next file.
Excel only detects UTF-8 reliably when a BOM is present, so keep 'UTF-8 with BOM' for data with accented or non-Latin characters; in many European locales Excel expects semicolons because the comma is the decimal separator.
