What is an EML file?
EML is a standard format for saving a single email message, defined by the RFC 822 standard. It stores headers, the body (plain text and/or HTML) and attachments in MIME format, and can be opened in Outlook, Thunderbird and Apple Mail.
How do I open an EML file without an email client?
Drag the .eml file into this viewer. Headers, the HTML or plain text body and the attachment list are rendered right in your browser, no email program or installation needed.
Are my emails uploaded to a server?
No. The file is parsed entirely in your browser with the open-source postal-mime library. Nothing is transmitted, so private correspondence stays on your device.
Can I download attachments from an EML file?
Yes. Every attachment is listed with its file name, MIME type and size, and each has its own download button. Files are reconstructed from the MIME data locally.
Is the HTML body safe to view?
The HTML view runs inside a fully sandboxed iframe with scripts disabled, so active content in the email cannot execute. You can also switch to the plain text view.
Does the viewer load remote content from the email?
No. The sandboxed HTML view blocks external resources — images, fonts or trackers pointing to the internet are never fetched, so opening a message never notifies a third-party server. Inline images referenced by cid: are rendered from the local file.
Why are .msg files not supported?
MSG is a proprietary Microsoft Outlook binary format (OLE compound document), completely different from MIME-based EML. Export the message from Outlook as .eml and open it here.
Can I see the technical headers of the email?
Yes. The viewer shows From, To, Cc, Subject, Date and the Message-ID in a clean table, useful for identifying spoofed mail or tracing delivery information.
How to Use EML Viewer
EML Viewer opens saved email files (.eml) directly in your browser using the open-source postal-mime parser. Everything is processed locally — your correspondence is never uploaded — and scripts inside email HTML are blocked by a sandboxed viewer.
- Drag an .eml file onto the drop zone, or click it to browse. Outlook users should save messages as .eml first; the proprietary .msg format is not supported.
- Read the header table: sender, recipients, Cc, subject, date and Message-ID are extracted automatically.
- Switch between the HTML view (rendered in a sandboxed iframe with scripts disabled) and the plain text view with the two tabs.
- Scroll to the attachments list and press Download next to any file to save it locally with its original name.
- Use Clear (or reload) to close the current message before opening another one.
Forward suspicious emails as .eml attachments and open them here to inspect real headers — the Message-ID and date reveal spoofed senders without ever loading remote content.
