Media Info Inspector
Inspect video, audio and image files online. See codecs, bitrate, resolution, duration and all technical tracks. 100% local analysis - files never leave your browser.
What is a media info inspector?
It is a tool that reads the technical details inside a media file, such as codecs, bitrates, resolution, frame rate, duration and audio channels, without playing or converting it.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The analysis runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your computer, which makes it safe for private or unreleased footage.
What file types are supported?
Practically every common video format (MP4, MKV, WebM, MOV, AVI, TS), audio format (MP3, AAC, FLAC, WAV, OGG) and image format (JPG, PNG, HEIC) can be analyzed.
What information will I see?
General container details, video track details (codec, resolution, frame rate, bit depth, color space), audio track details (codec, channels, sample rate) and subtitle or text tracks.
How do I find the codec of a video?
Open the file here, then look at the Video track section. The Format and Codec ID rows show the exact codec used for compression.
What does bitrate mean?
Bitrate is the amount of data used per second of media, usually in kbps or Mbps. Higher bitrate generally means better quality and larger file size.
Can I export the analysis as JSON?
Yes. Click "View raw JSON" to see the full technical report, then copy it to the clipboard or download it as a .json file for documentation.
Does large file analysis take long?
The tool reads only the file headers and a few samples, so even multi-gigabyte files are typically analyzed in under a second. Very large files show a size warning but still work.
Can I inspect several files at once?
Yes, you can add a whole batch of files. They appear in a queue, and you can switch between them to compare codecs, bitrates and resolutions.
Why do I need to check video metadata?
It helps you verify encoding settings, debug playback problems, confirm that a file meets delivery specifications, or find hidden metadata like the writing application and creation date.
How to Use Media Info Inspector
Media files carry a lot of hidden technical information: which codecs were used, the bitrate, resolution, frame rate, audio channels, and metadata such as the writing application. This tool reads all of it with the MediaInfo engine directly in your browser — your files are analyzed locally and never uploaded.
- Click the upload zone or drag one or more media files onto it. Videos, audio files and images are all supported, and you can queue a whole batch.
- Wait a moment while the analysis engine loads once and the first file is parsed. Track sections for General, Video, Audio and Text appear with their key-value details.
- Click any file in the queue to switch between files and compare codecs, bitrates and resolutions.
- Press View raw JSON to see the full technical report, then Copy JSON or Download JSON to save it as documentation.
The analysis only reads headers and samples, so even multi-GB files finish in under a second — handy for quickly checking delivery specs before sending footage to a client.
