Microphone Test
Free online microphone test. Check your mic level, waveform, spectrum and channels, record 5 seconds and play it back. 100% local, nothing is uploaded.
What does this microphone test check?
It shows the live input level in dBFS, the real-time waveform and frequency spectrum, detects the left and right channels, and lets you record 5 seconds to hear how you sound.
Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser. The sound never leaves your device and no recording is stored or sent to any server.
Why does the browser ask for microphone permission?
Browsers require your explicit consent before any page can access audio hardware. Click Allow in the prompt; you can change this later in the site permissions.
My microphone is not detected, what should I do?
Check that the mic is properly connected, select the correct device in the dropdown, close other apps that may be using it, and make sure no physical mute switch is on.
What does dBFS mean?
dBFS is decibels relative to full scale, where 0 dBFS is the loudest signal before clipping. Normal speech usually falls between -30 and -10 dBFS.
How do I test left and right channels?
Start the test and speak into one side of the microphone at a time. The L and R bars show which channel receives the signal.
Why does it say access was denied?
Microphone permission was blocked. Click the padlock icon in the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, then reload the page and start the test again.
Which browsers and devices are supported?
All modern browsers on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. A secure HTTPS connection is required.
How to Use Microphone Test
This microphone test runs entirely in your browser: your voice is analysed locally to show the live level, waveform, frequency spectrum and left/right channels, and you can record 5 seconds to hear how you sound. Nothing is uploaded and no recording is stored.
- Click "Start microphone" and press Allow when the browser asks for permission.
- Speak normally and watch the level bars (L/R), the live waveform and the frequency spectrum react in real time.
- Check the stats below the controls: sample rate, channel count, echo cancellation and noise reduction reported by your hardware.
- Press "Record 5s" to capture a short clip, then play it back or download it to compare devices.
- If nothing moves, pick another device in the Microphone dropdown or check that the mic is not muted in system settings.
During a call your voice should peak around -30 to -10 dBFS. If the bar barely moves, move closer to the mic or raise the input level in your system settings.
