Speaker Test
Free online speaker test. Play left/right channels, sweep 20Hz-20kHz, pink and white noise to check stereo balance and swapped channels. All signals synthesized locally.
How do I test if my left and right speakers are correct?
Select Left only or Right only and press Play. The sound must come from the matching physical speaker. If it comes from the opposite side, your channels are swapped.
What is the difference between pink noise and white noise?
White noise has equal energy per frequency and sounds hissy. Pink noise has equal energy per octave, sounds deeper and is more pleasant for checking speaker balance over time.
What frequency range can I test?
The tone slider sweeps continuously from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, covering the nominal range of human hearing. Note that most laptop speakers cannot reproduce sound below about 150-200 Hz.
Why use a frequency sweep?
A slow sweep makes rattles, resonances and dropouts audible at specific frequencies, and lets you find the lowest and highest frequencies your speakers can actually reproduce.
Do I need headphones or will speakers work?
Both work. Speakers are best for checking left/right placement, headphones are best for hearing very low frequencies and for detecting channel imbalance by ear.
Is any audio file downloaded or uploaded?
No. Every signal is synthesized in real time by your browser using the Web Audio API. Nothing is downloaded except this page and nothing is uploaded.
Can this tool damage my speakers?
No more than normal listening. Keep the volume at a comfortable level and avoid maximum volume with pure tones at high frequencies for long periods.
How do I check that channels are not phase-inverted?
Play pink noise on both channels and position yourself midway between the speakers. If the bass gets noticeably weaker in the middle position, one speaker is wired with inverted polarity.
How to Use Speaker Test
This tool generates all test signals live in your browser — pure sine tones, a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency sweep, pink noise and white noise — and plays them through the left channel, the right channel, both, or alternating. No audio files, nothing uploaded, works with any headphones or speakers.
- Pick the signal: Tone lets you drag the frequency slider anywhere from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, while pink and white noise cover the whole spectrum at once.
- Choose the channel: Left only, Right only, Both, or Alternate L/R which switches sides every 1.2 seconds.
- Press Play and confirm the sound comes from the matching physical speaker — the side indicators on screen show which channel is active.
- If the sides are reversed during single-channel playback, your speaker wires or audio settings are swapped; see the guidance below the player.
- Adjust the volume slider any time, and press Stop when done. For deep bass below 40 Hz use headphones.
A quick phase sanity check: with both channels playing the same pink noise, stand midway between the speakers — if the bass collapses in the middle, one speaker is wired out of phase.
