Video to Frames
Extract frames from video online free. Grab every Nth frame, a fixed FPS, or an exact number of stills as PNG or JPG, preview them and download as ZIP. 100% in-browser and private.
How do I extract frames from a video?
Upload your video, choose an extraction mode — every N frames, a fixed frame rate, or an exact total — pick PNG or JPG, and press Extract frames. A preview grid appears and you can download everything as ZIP.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Frame extraction runs on FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser. The video never leaves your device.
What is the difference between the extraction modes?
Every N frames keeps a fixed interval in the original timeline (great for sampling). Fixed FPS resamples the video at a chosen rate. Total frames spreads an exact number of images evenly across the whole video.
Should I choose PNG or JPG?
PNG is lossless with larger files, ideal for editing or archiving. JPG is much smaller with slight compression, ideal for previews, contact sheets, or datasets.
How many frames can I extract at once?
Hundreds work comfortably on most devices. Extracting thousands of full-resolution frames may be slow or hit browser memory limits, so large numbers trigger a warning.
Can I control the JPG quality?
Yes. When JPG is selected, a quality slider appears from 30 to 100. Higher values look better but produce larger files.
How are the image files named?
Images are numbered sequentially as frame_00001.png, frame_00002.png and so on, so they sort correctly and can be turned back into video later.
Why does the estimated frame count differ from the result?
The Every N frames estimate assumes 30 fps source video. If your video has a different frame rate, the actual count will differ slightly — the result shows the real number.
How to Use Video to Frames
Pull still images out of any video without uploading it. Powered by FFmpeg in WebAssembly, this tool grabs every Nth frame, resamples at a fixed frame rate, or spreads an exact number of stills across the clip — then packs everything into a ZIP, all inside your browser.
- Upload a video by clicking or dragging it into the upload area.
- Pick an extraction mode: Every N frames samples the original timeline, Fixed frame rate resamples at a chosen FPS, and Total frames spreads an exact count evenly.
- Choose PNG for lossless stills or JPG (with a quality slider) for smaller files. An estimate of the frame count updates as you change settings.
- Press Extract frames and wait — the progress bar tracks the FFmpeg job. A preview grid of the frames appears below.
- Press Download ZIP to save every extracted frame, numbered so the sequence can be reassembled into video later.
For machine-learning datasets, JPG at quality 80-90 is usually plenty and keeps the ZIP small. For editing or archiving, stay with PNG.
